PLEASE NOTE: Chair, Fundamentals, Yin, Gentle, and Restorative Yoga recommended for those new to the practice.
All-Levels Yoga: Be prepared to sweat! Engage in a practice that begins with awareness of the body in basic poses, with gradual progression toward finding the strength and presence in those more challenging. Modifications offered. Prior experience recommended.
Chair yoga is based on the 5000 year old yoga postures called asana, and breathing techniques. These traditional yoga poses and techniques have been modified to make the health and fitness benefits accessible to all. We all have different levels of flexibility and strength, and it is important to exercise within these abilities. This is why chair yoga is presented in low, moderate, and high, posture levels so that you can learn how to adapt it to your personal needs. We will focus on your upper and lower body, as well as your right and left sides. This innovative practice makes the class suitable for all ages and all fitness levels. It also is done within your comfort zone and allows you to practice with confidence, despite your level of yoga expertise.
Fundamentals of Yoga: A holistic practice encompassing philosophy, breath, basic postures and relaxation/meditation. The progression through the class is an even pace, to allow each person to "settle in" at each step along the way. This is a great place to begin your understanding of yoga, or refine a seasoned practice.
Gentle Yoga: This class is designed to benefit beginning or moderately experienced students and will include many aspects of yoga, such as meditation, yoga philosophy, breathing efficiency, flexibility, improved posture and stress reduction. Hopeful outcomes will be an awareness of the connection between body, mind and spirit as well as improving strength, balance, concentration, and endurance.
Intermediate/Advanced Yoga: Expect to work toward your personal edge. Experienced practitioners will find the challenge they seek but all are welcome and modifications will be offered. While inversions, arm balances and backbends may be woven into each class as we use a rigorous asana practice to quiet our minds and shed our fears, meditation and chanting may also be incorporated as tools to dive deeper into our individual oceans of joy.
Restorative Yoga: By engaging in a practice of conscious breathing, gentle movement, and deep, supported stretch postures, one can find a greater sense of ease in the body, as well as freedom in the mind. Appropriate for all levels.
Yin Yoga: Tired of always being on the run? Treat yourself to a practice of settling in with your body. Postures are fully supported and passive, and held for 2-4 minutes in order to facilitate release on all levels.
Yoga Blend: This class focuses on the exploration and repetition of basic yoga poses and how to connect them through attention to alignment and mindfulness. Ample time is provided in order to enjoy each pose and listen to your body. Some classes incorporate the use of fitness balls, light weights and foam rollers. Challenge yourself at your level, modifications provided. You’ll leave feeling more balanced on and off the mat.
